How to set up an OBS overlay

Updated 4 October 2026 · BotMe

An overlay is anything drawn on top of your stream video: alerts, a ticker, a leaderboard, a logo. In OBS Studio the easiest way to add one is a Browser Source, which is just a web page rendered as a layer in your scene. Most overlay tools, including BotMe Live, give you a URL to paste in.

What you need

  • OBS Studio (free, from obsproject.com) on Windows, macOS or Linux.
  • The overlay URL from your overlay tool.
  • A scene with your camera or screen capture already in it.

Add the overlay

  1. In OBS, select your scene in the Scenes box.
  2. In the Sources box, click + and choose Browser.
  3. Give it a name like "Overlay" and click OK.
  4. Paste the overlay URL into the URL field.
  5. Set Width and Height to match your canvas, usually 1920 and 1080. Check yours under Settings → Video → Base (Canvas) Resolution.
  6. Leave Custom CSS as it is unless the tool says otherwise. The default makes the page background transparent.
  7. Click OK. The overlay appears on top of your video.

Make sure the overlay source sits above your camera or screen capture in the Sources list. Sources higher in the list are drawn on top.

Position and size it

Click the overlay in the preview and drag the red handles to resize, or right-click it and use Transform → Fit to screen if it was designed full-frame. Hold Alt (Option on Mac) while dragging an edge to crop.

Keep it readable

A lot of your viewers are on phones, where a 1080p stream shrinks to a few inches.

  • Use big, bold text and few words.
  • Keep important things away from the very edges, where players and chat boxes cover them.
  • Don't stack too many layers. One alert area and one stats area is plenty.

When it doesn't show up

  • Blank or white box: check the URL is complete and opens in a normal browser.
  • Not updating: right-click the source, choose Properties, and click Refresh cache of current page.
  • Too small or blurry: match the browser source size to your canvas instead of scaling a small source up.
  • Sound from the overlay: in the source properties, tick Control audio via OBS so you can mute it in the mixer.

BotMe Live gives you a free overlay URL with buy alerts and a holder leaderboard for your coin. Paste it in as a Browser Source and you're done.
